Charmaine Sheh polished acting skills through 1000 episodes of series

[Takungpao, Mingpao, Oriental Daily 23/12/2010]

Recently, Charmaine was invited by skincare brand Shiseido to represent their Benefiance range. This range is targeted to females in their 30's to 40's. The brand is highly impressed with Charmaine's professional attitude of working 16 – 17 hours continuously without complaint. Hence they sought her out to be the ambassador of their anti-aging skincare.

On the day of advertisement shooting, Charmaine who was busy filming series in Hangzhou (Mainland China) flew back to Hong Kong and arrived at the set at 8am as per requested, without a hint of complaint nor fatigue.

Charmaine expressed that modern women regardless being single or having a family has high standards and pursues a more fulfilling life. They have knowledge and in control of their own future. In order to maintain best form and achieve a balanced, happier life, Charmaine learned to love herself a little bit more. Beautiful skin makes her feel happier.

Charmaine also added that both men and women are afraid to see the first signs of wrinkles on their face. An artiste often need to work throughout the evening to dawn and without having proper rest, it's inevitable to have wrinkles. Therefore she needs to take care of her skin regularly and cannot afford to be lazy.

"10 years ago, I received my first television award. It was the result of my hard work." In the past, Charmaine was often criticised for her 'chicken voice’ and bad acting. After 10 years of continuous hard work and polishing her acting skills, she has filmed more than 1000 episodes of series, portraying different roles and received recognition from the audiences. She hopes to achieve new breakthrough in 2011 by trying out new roles or stage theater performance.

Charmaine indicate that she will be spending Christmas and New Year in Mainland China filming series. In fact her work has already been scheduled up to July next year. Charmaine hopes to take a summer vacation in Greece: "I look forward visiting Greece, if I can find someone I like to accompany me, that will be perfect!"

Charmaine will be returning to Hong Kong on January 4th to attend Shiseido press conference and share tips in skincare.

The Rules of Success

[Hkheadline.com 17/12/2010]

Speaking of punctuality, it's mostly practiced by veterans in the industry. Let's not mention about coming early 15-20 minutes to a private gathering, but coming in half an hour earlier for work and getting ready before the filming crew appeared. Almost 99% of artistes originating from TVB knows that time is gold.

Vivian Chow is considered a veteran artist. Yesterday she made a mistake of appearing half an hour later to an event, and it was actually her first experience since joining the entertainment circle for so many years. This proved that she has high standard in punctuality. Actually, whether an artist can become successful can be observed through their habits. Apart from being punctual, you can notice how careful they are with the clothes and shoes provided by the journalist for interview. You can find out whether this person is selfish or thoughtful. Among the newer batch of artistes, (we) have only seen Charmaine knowing how to protect the sole of loaned heels by sticking masking tape on them. She even placed white sheets to avoid scratching them. There's definitely a reason why Charmaine successfully rose to the rank of 1st Sister today.

Thanks to shehsheh.com for the tips!

Sehseh: Most of the time, journalist and managers will loan clothes, shoes and accessories from designer label such as Prada, Marc Jacobs, Gucci etc. for photo shoots, in return of the free publicity. They need to make sure that the pieces are returned in good condition, otherwise they will have to compensate for it. I know, course I once worked part time in one of the labels above... kekeke.

[Next Magazine Issue 1084] Charmaine Sheh earning HKD30 million in 2010

[Pictures credit to Kuangai TVB BBS]

According to Next Magazine, Charmaine earned an approximate of HKD30 million (USD3.8 million) in 2010 with her various product endorsement and filming projects in Mainland China.

Recently, she signed a HKD1.5 million contract with Shiseido to become their spokesperson in Hong Kong/Mainland China. The Japanese skincare brand picked Charmaine out of 3 candidates despite her fees being the highest.

The advertisement for Shiseido was shot on the rooftop of Hotel LKF in Central. Charmaine was a bit worried during the shooting where she had to lean on the balcony (btw she's wearing 4 inch heels!). The filming process took whole day and she only had a few bites of pasta in between.

This year, Charmaine filmed two Mainland China series; [Justice, My Foot!] and [Female Constables]. She was rumored to be paid HKD100, 000 per episode. Due to lack of rest and the freezing temperature in China, Charmaine recently fell sick while filming [Female Constables] with Bobby Au Yeung.

China Central Television [CCTV] (China's major TV station) have already purchased the broadcast right for [Can't Buy Me Love] and her fees is expected to be increased as her popularity in Mainland China grows.

In addition, she profited HKD8.6 million from selling her property in North Point last month. Charmaine indicate that she is currently surveying for new apartment in Hong Kong island.

Congrats to Charmaine! Though we should take the figures provided by Next magazine (as in any tabloids) with a pinch of salt, it's pretty much true that Charmaine continue to be the top earning artist in TVB this year. Looking forward to her Shiseido ads!

p.s. Sorry for the mistakes in the Shiseido figure... my eyes were playing tricks on me :P

Charmaine Sheh shows support to Moses Chan

[The Sun, Oriental Daily, 15/12/2010]

Charmaine Sheh who once has rumors with Moses Chan is currently filming in Wuxi, Mainland China. During the phone interview, she frankly indicate that she have not heard the 'break up' news of Moses and Bernice Liu.

However, she showed support as 3rd Princess: "Anyway I will always support Fuma. (Some netizen says that Moses can be with you now?) Aiks, don't drag me in! It's not convenient for me to get involved in this. (Will you call to comfort him?) Moses is a positive and optimistic person; I believe he can handle it well."

Regarding comments by netizen wishing for them to be together, Charmaine laughed and said: "Some people are confused between reel life and real life, we are only good colleagues, and perhaps the audiences are too immersed in the series!" Since she will be spending Christmas and New Year in Mainland China, Charmaine is expected to lose out in money earning opportunities. Charmaine said: “I received fees for filming the series too! You can't say that it's a loss, because I will be rushing back to attend some functions."

Sehseh: Seriously how funny is the HK media - they need to interview Charmaine for this hardly related news. It's undeniable that Charmaine's name alone in the headline can sell their papers. Anyway, I am a bit saddened by the rumored split, but relationship is a private matter between two person, so I hope the media will give Moses and Bernice a break.

As for Charmaine, she recently fell sick due to the freezing temperature in Wuxi (it's below zero now). This morning she resumed filming again with Bobby, hope she takes care of her health.

Fans, please do drop by her weibo and leave supporting message to her :)

p.s. Charmaine has just signed up with Shiseido to be their spokesperson in HK, keep your fingers crossed for more details soon!

Charmaine Sheh not anxious to get married

[The Sun 12/12/10]

Although 'TV Queen' Sheren Tang and 'Biological Daughter' Charmaine Sheh have TVB city at their beck and call, they are not successful in their love life. In the world without men, each of them represent a blossomed flower. While the tough Miss Nine criticized men, Sheren actually desires love; Princess Chiu Yeung is spoiled and unreasonable, Charmaine is silently waiting for love. Ah, the irony of leading actresses!

High regard for Sheren versus Theresa Mo

"The media placing the emphasis on me and Sheren makes it unfair towards the other candidates. Don't take away credit from other people's hard work because everyone poured a lot of effort in their portrayal. Actually I have high regard for Mo Jie (Theresa Mo). Some people said that her acting is exaggerated, but I feel that such portrayal is not a problem in sitcoms. I'm already watching her before I joined the industry, I admire her comedic talent." Having experienced turbulence and hardships, Charmaine has already exceeded 30 years of age. She has won TV Queen, earned a lot of money and also gained a bunch of rumored boyfriends such as Benny Chan, Kevin Cheng, Moses Chan etc. However she has yet to found true love, advancing her into the league of [Golden Leftover Ladies]. As she spent quite some time in Mainland China filming series, Charmaine have no idea what the term [Leftover Ladies] meant. After she found out it represent successful but single ladies in their 30's, she laughed and said: "It sounds quite nice! I don't feel its insulting women!" While in reel life the sassy princess is willing to sacrifice everything for love, Charmaine gave up love for career in real life. "You gain some, you lose some. Since I spent most time in my work, naturally I have little time for family and romance! Though I keep wishing for a holiday, I end up filming 140 episodes of series non-stop. Later I will be filming [Forensic Heroes 3], which means I can only get some rest after filming 170 episodes of series."

Having thoughts of retiring after being urged by grandmother to get married

Entering marriageable age, Charmaine's grandmother was worried that she can't get married and keep urging her to do so. This made Charmaine have thoughts about retiring from entertainment circle. "Mummy didn't urge me, but Grandma keeps asking me not to work (in entertainment circle) anymore and quickly get married. I asked Grandma: "Not working (acting), what should I do then?" She said anything else is fine. I have seriously thought about retiring, but I really like acting, it's difficult for me to give up! I can only leave it to fate, I'm not afraid of waiting; I can wait for him to appear!" To Charmaine, dating is like a luxury, if she has extra time she'd rather get some sleep: "I believe fate is decided by heaven, but right now I'm too busy to meet someone and get married. Even if there's someone pursuing me, I do not have time to go out. In fact I don't even have much time to sleep on my bed!" In the past year, Charmaine had grown weary from filming series non-stop. "Filming 6 series [When Heaven Burns], [Can't Buy Me Love], [Justice, My Foot!], [Sister Fa] and [Female Constables] continuously, that's portraying 6 different characters in a short period of time. I'm exhausted both mentally and physically."

Praising Fala Chen as having molding potential

Though Charmaine lost TV Queen this year, her acting has already been long acknowledged. There's no doubt about her winning 'My Favorite Female Character Award'. She revealed that she has always been secretly learning acting from others. "I've never formally took lessons from acting teachers, but I try to learn and observe from my onscreen partners. They are not necessary the male leads, such as Kara Hui and seniors such as Felix Wong. Also there's Lo Ka (Gallen Lo), Roger Kwok who has different methods in acting. I remember in [Seven Sisters], I have a particularly long dialogue which requires me to do a lot of actions in the same time. Seeing me getting frightened and fidgety, Gallen taught me to threw everything away and draw myself into the character. Don't let the script control myself; I've keep practicing this useful lesson." Since she is already secured in TVB first leading actress league, Charmaine was asked to comment on the upcoming batch of actresses. She was particularly hopeful in Fala Chen: "Fala Chen, Linda Chung and Tavia Yeung are quite good. Though all three have good connection with audiences, if I really have to choose, I feel that Fala have high potential (molding), she handled two different kind of roles in [CBML] and [NR] well. I admire her."

Epilogue

The filial and obedient grand-daughter Charmaine Sheh purposely returned to Hong Kong to attend TVB anniversary award. She only returned for 2-3 days and has already accepted countless interviews. Though she was visibly tired, she persevered till the end. During the interview, Charmaine grandmother keep calling her through the phone and the widely known filial Charmaine ran back and forth in 5 inch heels and evening gown to answer her calls. She can be heard answering gently: "Got it, I will come home. Tomorrow I will accompany you to eat dinner." After hanging up, Charmaine smiled and said: "Grandma is already 96 years old; sometimes she forgot that she has already called me. She really loves me!"

Charmaine Sheh a little disappointed losing 'Best Actress Award'

[The Sun, Oriental Daily, Mingpao 07/12/2010]

Note: I only translated parts related to Charmaine and [CBML]

Results of TVB Anniversary Awards 2010 has been revealed on December 5th, with series [No Regrets] and [Can't Buy Me Love] being major winners in the show. At this, TVB receives a total of 32 public opinions; with 16 saying [NR] should win 'Best Series', 4 saying Raymond Lam should not win 'My Favorite Male Character', 4 praises for [NR] cast and crew, 2 saying that Wayne Lai TV King win is deserving, 5 saying that Charmaine acting have breakthrough in [CBML] and should win TV Queen while 1 says that [NR] and [CBML] should win 'Best Series' together.

The winner for 'My Favorite Female Character' Charmaine Sheh already flew back to Wuxi yesterday morning to resume filming [Female Constables]. The cast and crew even threw a celebration for her! Mentioning the award controversy, Charmaine replied through phone: "Everything has already been concluded, it's a fact that cannot be changed, and hopefully next year results will be satisfying!" Charmaine felt disappointed not being able to win 'My Favorite Character' together with Moses Chan but expressed that she is still happy for Raymond Lam. In addition, she feels that Mui Siu Ching [CBML] winning Best Series is happier than winning her own award.

On the other hand, though [NR] leading and supporting cast swept 4 awards, they still lost 'Best Series' to [CBML]. Some audiences were shocked by this result and complained that [CBML] added online ratings for the series, while [NR] did not. At this, [CBML] producer Mui Siu Ching said: "The series being highest rating of the year did not include online ratings, but followed the traditional count. I'm not even prepared to win, quite shocked when it was announced. Actually [NR] is a good series." Mui Siu Ching also expressed that both [CBML] and [NR] have their own fans and bound to have different opinions. What makes her happiest is to receive sincere congratulations from Lee Tim Seng (NR producer). She indicates that everyone worked hard for their series. To her the award ceremony has ended and she is currently preparing for upcoming series [Forensic Heroes 3].

My Favorite Female Character Award: Charmaine Sheh as Princess Chiu Yeung in [Can’t Buy Me Love]

Most Favorite is Mummy

In the fight for TV Queen Award, Miss Nine (Sheren Tang) and Princess Chiu Yeung (Charmaine Sheh) were the most popular candidates to win. In the end both receive an award. Charmaine feels happy winning this award as the sassy princess was her favorite character.

"Princess Chiu Yeung is my favorite character; therefore I am very happy that the audiences love her. I thank Mui Siu Ching and scriptwriter for giving me such a good character; I thank fellow cast and production crew (stylist, costume, lighting etc.). Also it took me a long time to persuade my Mummy to attend the award presentation ceremony, this is the first time she saw me accepting award live. I feel that career and family are equally important; I want to tell her (Mum) that she will always be my favorite character."

Long Time Ahead

During the press interview, 'My Favorite Male Character Award' was about to be presented, Charmaine stared at the screen and shouted: "Ah Mo! (Moses Chan)" Though in the end it was won by Raymond Lam, she still feels happy for him. "Ah Mo is my partner in [CBML], of course I have to support him. But I also feel happy for Raymond winning, he is my buddy."

Regarding losing the 'Best Actress Award', Charmaine who has participated in many years of anniversary award does not feel upset about it. "I do feel a little disappointed not being able to win 'Best Actress Award', but I'm not unhappy about it. There are so many good actors/actresses every year but only a few can win awards. Therefore I won't give myself too much pressure. I'll try my best in every character given; the most important thing is to receive support from audiences. I will continue to move forward."

p.s. I'm not too disappointed with tonight's result, in fact pleasantly surprised that CBML won Best Series. Lol, nothing like 'in your face' served cold to haters...

So glad to see Lau Siu Ming too. Coincidentally, he was also there to congratulate Charmaine's win back in 2006. Charmaine's favorite 'yeh yeh' (grandpa) in Seven Sisters!

I'm very happy that Evergreen Mak won. He deserves the award and I feel that he is much experienced and consistent than popular candidate Ngo Ka Nin. Congrats to Mak Bao again!

However, I wished Charmaine picked a better dress. This Valentino dress was a tad too mature for her, and IMO any woman above 10 years old should avoid puffy sleeves and frilly laces.

Meanwhile, do drop by Charmaine's weibo and TVB Blog to leave some supporting message to her :)
