Upcoming project: [带刀女捕快] aka Female Constables

Charmaine will be filming in a Mainland China series [带刀女捕快] (tentative title: Female Constables) with Bobby Au Yeung in November 2010. The series will be produced by Shanghai Triple-A media and directed by Kwong Yip Sang.

Kwong Yip Sang is ex-TVB producer (among his notable works are Armed Reaction, PITNOL, The Legendary 4 Aces, Take My Word For It). This mainland series is dubbed to be the costume version of [Armed Reaction].

So far, no further news regarding the plot or other leads have been revealed. Yesterday, the production company released some posters (albeit badly photoshopped). Please note that the cast (aside from Bobby & Charmaine) has not been confirmed, neither did they took part in any costume fitting yet. Hence, the poster is not official, just for early promotional purposes.

The above is the lead characters brief description (there will be two male leads and two female leads). Clockwise from top left:

Lau Ming Yuet (female constable) - Gentle and virtuous, meticulous and pay attention to details. Optimistic and self-satisfied.

Au Yeung Shing Nam (female constable) - Straightforward, easy going, upholds justice. Tomboy who likes to dress like guys.

Zhan Zhao (head constable) - Chauvinistic, stubbornly honest, powerful martial arts, handsome (yes, THE Zhan Zhao in every version of Justice Bao must be good looking, lol)

Au Yeung Dong (famous lawyer) - Daring and open minded. Eloquent. Knowledgeable about all sorts of weapons.

You can start guessing which female constable role Charmaine will be taking ;)

Below are the 'posters' and also the candidates for Zhan Zhao. Please take with a grain of salt, usually these kind of candidate list are used to hype the series, not necessary the real thing.

Moses Chan: Spoiled Princess Charmaine Sheh is not hateful

[Takungpao 30/08/2010]

Yesterday Moses Chan, Charmaine Sheh, Fala Chen, Linda Chung, Kenneth Ma, Susan Tse, Susanna Kwan, Louis Yuen etc attended the promotional event for new series [Can't Buy Me Love]. The cast wore costumes and played games with audiences. When Susanna sang the theme song, the cast danced along in the background, creating a lively atmosphere.

In the series, Charmaine portrayed a spoiled princess and created plenty of sparks with Moses. Asked if she is portraying her true self in the series, Charmaine smiled and said that it's all acting, she doesn't have princess syndrome. Will she be worried that people will dislike her spoiled character in the series? Charmaine expressed that an actor/actress must experiment with different kind of characters in order to bring a refreshing feeling to audiences.

Moses highly praised Charmaine's comedic talent in the series. Though spoiled, her character is not hateful at all. Moses was asked if he have encountered girls with princess syndrome. He laughed: "None of my friends have princess syndrome. (How would you handle a spoiled girlfriend?) I've never encountered one so I don't know. If such thing happened, I will try to coax her first and wait until she calmed down to discuss the issue."

The series was coincidentally aired during the Philippines bus hijack tragedy. Will this affect the series ratings? Moses feels that the incidence have affected every Hong Kong citizens, but he hopes that people will learn to relax at appropriate time. It's not healthy to keep thinking about negative incident. He smiled and said that [CBML] can bring some happiness to audiences, so he's not worried about the ratings. Charmaine and Fala also expressed the same opinion that [CBML] can bring happiness with its optimistic message. They hope that the people hurt by this incidence will bravely face the future.

[TVB Weekly Issue 688] Can't Buy Me Love - Pure Source of Laughter

Charmaine Sheh - Potential for being spoiled

She may have brought a spoiled princess to life, but here's not need to suspect that Charmaine herself have 'Princess Syndrome'. She is only professional bringing forth the potential within herself. "I feel that everyone have multiple personalities within oneself. Some people will rather hide it and rarely reveal them. An actor will be able to bring forward different personalities and share with the audiences. This time I picked the spoiled personality, it's quite fun actually."

Though she is spoiled, she is adorable as well. This is because Princess Chew Yeung is naturally kind, "She only suffers from 'princess syndrome', she was spoiled rotten but she never thought of harming anyone. In addition, the plot won't go over the line (with her brashness). The princess is very imposing every time she makes an entrance. Even though she married into the Gum family, she brought more than 1000 servants along with her, so grand. I really enjoyed my character as a princess, because I have the company of Fala Chen; who portrayed my handmaiden, and also Linda Chung. We're really friendly and happy together. However, it takes a lot of energy and spirit to portray Princess Chew Yeung. This is because every time she appears, she will create troubles, never once she appear quietly. Most scenes are arguing scenes, in addition she have a sharp tongue; which non-stop scolding people. Basically I need to take a break after I filmed an argument scene with Moses."

Both Fala Chen and Linda Chung admires Charmaine's professionalism :)

Fala: "Charmaine is a really experienced actress, she will rehearse with fellow cast members and help each other to figure to best way to act the scene. She lead me into the scene, the results is really wonderful. This is my first time working with Charmaine, I'm really fond of her because our personalities are quite similar; tough and straightforward. Therefore we communicate well. In work, I admire her serious attitude, and also good acting skills. She also know how to handle the media questions, considerate, high EQ. All these are prime examples I want to follow. After our collaboration, we became good friends who often keep in contact."

Linda: "I'd rather be a commoner outside the series. This is because the script for princesses is really refined, I had a hard time memorizing them. Therefore I really admire Charmaine."

At Mochi's special request, here's the translation of Charmaine & Raymond's interview clip(s) @ [Colorful World of Sister Fa] in their respective TVB Blog:

Charmaine clip 1

In [Sister Fa], I will be portraying a girl with mentality of 10 years old. She is optimistic and cheerful. In her world, everything is simple and beautiful. Basically she doesn't have any conflict. Therefore she is quite a lovable girl. But the difficulties in portraying this character is that I'm physically in my 30's. Therefore I thought very long on how to convince the audience that I am 10 years old. I try figuring it out for 3-4 weeks. Earlier, I went to a special school and spent a day with special children with mentality of 10 years old. I observed their common habits and traits. Sometimes when they are talking, they will hang (long pause) for a while to process their thoughts. For example, if you asked them what's on TV, they can answer you immediately. But when you ask them about where they live, how many siblings they have, they will pause a while to process the answer. I feel that I can apply this into my character. I hope my performance in [Sister Fa] will bring a refreshing feeling to audiences.

Charmaine clip 2

(Cast she have most scene with) That will be Raymond Lam. In the beginning, he keep pulling pranks on me. Afterward we started to have feelings, and perhaps romance too. Also... the closest will be Toby Leung and Jazz Lam. They are my younger brother and sister in the series. My family are very protective of me. Basically the people around me protects and did not look down on me. They will help me. It's a warm family.

Raymond clip

In this series, my character... is one of the most annoying role to date. In the past I have portrayed useless rich heir before, but at least they have ambitions and ideas, aside from being playful. However my current role have none of those. Only enjoys life, no life aspirations at all. He doesn't need to work at all. Of course he will learn his lessons and he will meet Charmaine. From someone who keep bullying her to slowly having feelings for her later. Actually, it has been a few years since I last collaborated with Charmaine. Our new collaboration is quite cute, her character is outstanding. Charmaine definitely fits the requirement of being cute. The difficult part is holding my laughter. Because Charmaine is really too cute in the series, while my character need to show an annoyed expression. The results is very satisfying, we feel that it's quite refreshing.

Charmaine Sheh won't dislike 'Prince Fung'

[The Sun, Oriental Daily, Wenweipo 26/08/2010]

Yesterday Charmaine Sheh, Raymond Lam, Toby Leung etc attended the blessing ceremony for new TVB series [Colorful World of Sister Fa]. Charmaine cut her hair short for her role of a girl with 10 years old mentality. She also visited a school for special children to do some research.

Charmaine expressed that the role is quite challenging to her. She has to portray a girl with mentality of 10 years old and have a romantic relationship with Raymond. "The role is like the female version of Ah Wong. It's quite challenging as I'm in my 30's but have to convince other people to accept me as a 10-year-old. In addition, Roger Kwok's Ah Wong is already well known among audiences. I'm worried not going good enough, therefore I visited school for special children to learn more about them."

Every time Charmaine films a series, there will be rumors with male co-stars. However she had no rumors with Raymond who collaborated with her before in [The Drive of Life]. At this, Raymond laughed: "In our previous collaboration, she had rumors with another person. I really need to do some self-reflection; maybe I'm not attractive enough. We should have rumors in this series!" As for Charmaine, she said it's the media who spread rumors anyway. "Not having rumors is a good thing! (Are you afraid of rumors saying you dislike him?) Why would I dislike 'Prince Fung'? We have worked together and knew each other for a long time already, the most important thing is a enjoyable collaboration."

On the other hand, though [Can't Buy Me Love] garnered high ratings, Charmaine expressed that they did not have the mood to celebrate due to the Philippines bus hostage tragedy. The national mourning in the Philippines cannot compensate anything. She hopes that [Can't Buy Me Love] will help to bring some comfort and happiness the audiences.
