Raymond Lam and Charmaine Sheh to collaborate again in new series

[Source: Singtao, Apple Daily, The Sun 16/07/2010]

Following their previous collaboration in 2007 series [The Drive of Life], Charmaine Sheh and Raymond Lam will partner once again in TVB series 《花花世界花家姐》 The Colorful World of Sister Fa (tentative title). The motivational theme series will start filming in August, with 20 episodes in total.

In the series, Charmaine will be portraying a break through role – a delivery girl with mental capacity of 10 years old. Though she is mentally handicapped, she never loses hope in life. She even helped her mother to take care of younger sister, portrayed by Toby Leung. Toby was bullied by her superior (Raymond) and Charmaine entered the company to protect her little sister.

As for Raymond, he will be portraying a useless rich heir, who will squander his family fortune and forced into poverty. After experiencing hardships, he learned his lesson and aspired to become a hardworking youth. He will also have a romantic storyline with Charmaine.

According to producer Kwan Wing Chung, "There's a lot of potential in mentally challenged characters. Charmaine is currently filming in Mainland China, but earlier she have visited some special schools (for the mentally challenged children) for reference. As for Raymond, he will also be portraying slightly different role; a hardcore useless rich kid."

Raymond indicate that he is not worried being overshadowed by Charmaine – he is very interested in portraying badass roles, in fact he will be happy if the audience hate his annoying character after watching the series.

Previous year, he had a rumor with Charmaine after wearing similar (couple) watches in public. At this, Raymond is not worried of new rumors and said that he is familiar with Charmaine as they have collaborated plenty of times in the past.

Sidenote: The translated news above was summarized, as the rest were about the rumors of how TVB planned to push Charmaine and Raymond to win Best Actor and Actress award this year. As the [Sister Fa] will be filming during TVB anniversary period and will not make it for 2010 airing, it's obvious that these rumors are just to garner hype for TVB anniversary.

I have a feeling that Raymond's character will have unrequited love for Charmaine's character. I mean, the context of 'love' between a 10 year old girl and a man in mid 20's is very different. Most likely just platonic love.

p.s. I also hope fans of Charmaine and Raymond will respect each other - we all have our favorites. Please don't go around bashing other artistes just because you like or dislike this pairing. And yes, that also means don't pollute my cbox, keep your anti-comments to yourself please.

  1. I hope it is unrequited love, because I think the plot would be ridiculous otherwise. Frankly speaking, I can't imagine any normal man falling in love with a 10 year old. Look-wise she might be older, but her mind is not. Likewise, I find it equally unrealistic for a 10 year old to fall in love with an adult. But we all know TVB doesn't care about realism, so colour me worried.

I'm happy for another CharRay collaboration, but had hoped for something more challenging for Ray. I'm sure Charmaine will do well though.

  2. Actually, I do sense a bit of pedo-ish when I read the character description. Since the title reads "Raymond Lam bitter love for Charmaine..." I do believe that it's platonic love. And yes, it will be absurd if TVB writes her mental condition as curable.

However, there are many real instances that mentally disabled ppl get married and have children, so we'll see how the writers is going to do to the storyline.
